About Us

I have always been fascinated by how the human body works and drawn to caring for people. My father, a medical doctor, inspired me to take an interest in each person’s story and to remain willing to help wherever I can. Although my path led me to physiotherapy rather than medicine, those values continue to shape the way I practice.

I was born and raised in Pretoria and graduated with a BSc Physiotherapy from the University of Pretoria in 2018. After completing my community service at Tshwane District Hospital in 2019, I worked at Life Groen Kloof Hospital, where I was involved in a multidisciplinary pain clinic. This experience sparked my special interest in persistent pain and led me to pursue further training in pain education and rehabilitation.

In 2022, my husband, Corin, and I fulfilled our dream of moving closer to the ocean and settled in Somerset West. After working as a locum physiotherapist at several practices in the Strand and Somerset West area, I joined Lee Scott’s practice as an associate physiotherapist in 2024.

Having danced throughout my life and experienced the challenges of recovering from my own sports injuries, I understand how difficult it can be when pain or injury limits the activities you love. My own rehabilitation journey inspired me to develop additional skills in Pilates-based rehabilitation and hydrotherapy. I draw on these approaches, together with physiotherapy, pain education and dry needling, to provide treatment tailored to each patient’s needs and goals.

I have a special interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and persistent pain. I enjoy helping people understand their bodies, rebuild confidence in movement and participate actively in their recovery.

My Christian faith and desire to serve others are central to who I am. I value the relationships I build with my patients and experience great joy in supporting them through their recovery. Whether through physiotherapy, church and charity initiatives, or caring for family and friends, helping others will always remain at the heart of what I do.

Dr Karen Schwabe is a medical doctor (MBChB, Stell), with a Sport and Exercise Medicine degree (MPhil, UCT).

Experience includes team physician for the South African Olympic Team, Commonwealth Games, Springbok 7’s Rugby Team and FIFA 2010 VIP doctor.

Also head of medical for the following:

Previously in charge of the chronic disease rehabilitation program U-turn in Stellenbosch (2014-2017).

Dr Schwabe headed up a Netcare Trauma unit from 2002 to 2012. During this same time did voluntary rescue work on the Air Mercy Service, both on the fixed-wing and helicopter, while also working for SOS International.

Dr Schwabe completed her PhD in Human Biology/Exercise Science (UCT). Her thesis focused on the medical complications in endurance running and the risk mitigation thereof. She has published numerous papers on this topic.
