A team with complementary experience

Founded by Lee Scott in Somerset West in 2002, the practice has grown to offer a wider range of physiotherapy care.
Bianca Roux joined as an associate in 2024, and Claire Fuller is joining the team for an extended locum period.
Together, we combine careful assessment, hands-on care, education and progressive rehabilitation.

I have owned a private physiotherapy practice in Somerset West for more than 24 years. During this time, I have had the privilege of sharing premises and working alongside a variety of healthcare professionals. Learning from these colleagues has broadened my understanding of pain and introduced me to many different approaches to care. Most importantly, it has reinforced my belief that each person should be treated as an individual, because no two people—and no two experiences of pain—are the same.

Over the years, I have developed a special interest in pain, especially persistent pain and nervous-system regulation. My approach combines physiotherapy, pain neuroscience education and purposeful movement to help people better understand their bodies, feel safer and more confident in movement, and take an active role in their recovery.

As a lifelong ballet dancer and qualified ballet teacher, movement has always been an important part of my life. Following a major motorcycle accident, NeuroThrive 12 became an important part of my own healing journey. Together with Nia—Neuromuscular Integrative Action—it helped me appreciate the value of mindful, adaptable movement in rebuilding confidence, reconnecting with the body and supporting recovery.

My personal experience has deepened my passion for integrating the principles of NeuroThrive 12 and Nia into my physiotherapy practice as therapeutic movement tools. They complement rehabilitation by supporting body awareness, nervous-system regulation and a gradual, positive return to movement. I am passionate about sharing these benefits with my patients, colleagues and community.

I continue to attend courses and develop my knowledge and skills so that I can provide thoughtful, evidence-informed care. I also value collaboration with other healthcare professionals and specialists and have built strong relationships with practitioners throughout the Helderberg area, allowing me to refer patients for additional support when needed.

I have always been fascinated by how the human body works and drawn to caring for people. My father, a medical doctor, inspired me to take an interest in each person’s story and to remain willing to help wherever I can. Although my path led me to physiotherapy rather than medicine, those values continue to shape the way I practice.

I was born and raised in Pretoria and graduated with a BSc Physiotherapy from the University of Pretoria in 2018. After completing my community service at Tshwane District Hospital in 2019, I worked at Life Groen Kloof Hospital, where I was involved in a multidisciplinary pain clinic. This experience sparked my special interest in persistent pain and led me to pursue further training in pain education and rehabilitation.

In 2022, my husband, Corin, and I fulfilled our dream of moving closer to the ocean and settled in Somerset West. After working as a locum physiotherapist at several practices in the Strand and Somerset West area, I joined Lee Scott’s practice as an associate physiotherapist in 2024.

Having danced throughout my life and experienced the challenges of recovering from my own sports injuries, I understand how difficult it can be when pain or injury limits the activities you love. My own rehabilitation journey inspired me to develop additional skills in Pilates-based rehabilitation and hydrotherapy. I draw on these approaches, together with physiotherapy, pain education and dry needling, to provide treatment tailored to each patient’s needs and goals.

I have a special interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and persistent pain. I enjoy helping people understand their bodies, rebuild confidence in movement and participate actively in their recovery.

My Christian faith and desire to serve others are central to who I am. I value the relationships I build with my patients and experience great joy in supporting them through their recovery. Whether through physiotherapy, church and charity initiatives, or caring for family and friends, helping others will always remain at the heart of what I do.

Karen Schwabe

Dr Karen Schwabe is a medical doctor (MBChB, Stell), with a Sport and Exercise Medicine degree (MPhil, UCT).

Experience includes team physician for the South African Olympic Team, Commonwealth Games, Springbok 7’s Rugby Team and FIFA 2010 VIP doctor.

Also head of medical for the following:

South African Youth Olympic Team,
Two Oceans Race Medical Tent Director (2008-2015) and,
Stormers and Western Province Rugby (2015-2019).

Previously in charge of the chronic disease rehabilitation program U-turn in Stellenbosch (2014-2017).

Dr Schwabe headed up a Netcare Trauma unit from 2002 to 2012. During this same time did voluntary rescue work on the Air Mercy Service, both on the fixed-wing and helicopter, while also working for SOS International.

Dr Schwabe completed her PhD in Human Biology/Exercise Science (UCT). Her thesis focused on the medical complications in endurance running and the risk mitigation thereof. She has published numerous papers on this topic.

Nina Steyn

I have worked as a physiotherapist for more than 20 years, with clinical experience across South Africa, the United Kingdom and Angola and more than a decade in private practice. During this time, I have developed broad experience in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic physiotherapy, spinal assessment and rehabilitation, occupational health and exercise-based care.

I believe in creating a supportive environment where each person understands their condition and is actively involved in their rehabilitation. My approach combines thorough assessment, hands-on treatment, clear education and individualised exercise to help patients improve function, build confidence in movement and develop practical strategies for long-term self-management.

My postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy and credentialing in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy support my strong spinal focus. My career has also included assessing employees’ functional capacity for demanding offshore work at the International SOS / Chevron Clinic in Angola. Since 2016, I have run my own private practice within the Spine Clinic of orthopaedic surgeon Dr Attila Szabo at Cape Town Mediclinic.

I have a particular interest in spinal and musculoskeletal care, manual therapy, the McKenzie approach and Pilates-informed rehabilitation. I am registered with the HPCSA and am a member of the South African Society of Physiotherapy and the Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy Group. Outside of physiotherapy, I enjoy hiking, swimming, reading and spending time outdoors with family and friends. Having recently relocated to Somerset West, I am delighted to be joining the practice while Bianca is on maternity leave.

Claire Fuller

I have worked as a physiotherapist for 20 years, with more than 15 years in private practice. During this time, I have gained broad experience in musculoskeletal and orthopedic rehabilitation, lymphoedema management, sports physiotherapy and the treatment of both acute and persistent conditions.

I believe in creating a supportive environment where each person feels heard, understood and actively involved in their rehabilitation. My approach combines hands-on treatment, education and exercise to help patients understand their condition, regain confidence in movement and continue making progress beyond the treatment room.

As the founder of Adventure Physio, I also spent more than a decade providing physiotherapy at multi-stage endurance events throughout South Africa. This developed my experience in acute injury care, recovery and helping active people return safely to the activities they enjoy.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and have a particular interest in lymphoedema management, older-adult care and exercise-based musculoskeletal and orthopedic rehabilitation. Outside of physiotherapy, I enjoy trail and road running, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, paddling and gardening.
